Digipack Mock

Split up

We have decided that a more effective way of working would be if we assigned each of us seperate jobs and took it in turn to do each job individually. The three jobs we have assigned are Molly for editing, Rachael to do the website and me to start researching and mocking up the Digipack. So far I have been finding that it works very well, we tend to be more productive and as we have discussions as a group as to how we want to do things each job still reflects us as a group not as the individual. We will be rotating our jobs around so that everyone has an equal input into each part of our project.

Rachael and Molly's presentations

Molly

Molly's first album was Nirvana's Nevermind.

In her presentation she talked about the iconic cover, how there was much controversy around it including the nudity of the baby as well as the symbolism around the baby swimming towards the money. Inside the leaflet there are promotional pictures of the band including one where Kurt was flipping off the camera. They use the background of the water on the cover through out the insert. Monochrome other side of the leaflet, images are intentionally off centre across the bends of the leaflet. On the back is a collage of Michael Jackson's monkey surrounded by meat by the lead singer Kurt Cobain.

Molly's secound album was an icelandic band Royksopp album Melody A.M.

In her presentation she showed the minimal style throughout. A continued photo with trees and a huge story sky with a tobacco filter. Uses gradient colour from an off brown to a sickly orange sometimes taking up whole double pages of the inserts giving it a vintage feel. Clearly a lower budget production than albums such as never mind.

Rachael

Rachael's first album was Depeche Mode's Playing the Angel

An electronic rock pop band with an illustrated graphic style cover. 'E' on the front three lined collage. Shades of grey in the background, figure made of feathers linking to the title. Booklet is manly stylised photos of the band with a 'grundge' style, there's also lyrics in the booklet simply printed.

Her Second album was Ok Computer by Radiohead

A stop-motion esque illustration of the front. Whole album including leaflet has a techno influence with lyrics lade out like code work. Booklet is full of artwork, collages with graphic illustration, photography and found popular culture imagery. Recurring themes of religious imagery and of objects leaving, on one page they show an  airplane saftey warning that's been crossed out. The album in my opinion reflects a lot of the music, both are very layered and have technological/futuristic android influences.
